The Eightfold Path: A Christian View

Buddhists believe that a good life consists of following the Eightfold Path set fort by Buddha.  The following provides a Christian perspective.

1: RIGHT UNDERSTANDING

"Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life" - John 14:6

"Salvation is found in no one else" - Acts 4:12

2: RIGHT THOUGHT

Fights and quarrels come from selfish desires and wrong motives. - Jas. 4:1-3

Right desire and motives honor God - 1 cor. 10:31

3: RIGHT SPEECH

Jesus said, "The mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart" -  Matt. 12:34, NASB

A day of judgment is coming when God will hold people accountable for every careless word they have spoken  - Matt 12:36

4: RIGHT ACTION

Those who love Jesus must obey Him - John 14:21

Those who live by God's wisdom produce good fruit - Jas. 3:17

5: RIGHT LIVELYHOOD

God cares for those who put Him first - Matt. 6:31,33)

All work must be done for God's approval - Eph. 6:6-7; 2 Tim 2:15

6: RIGHT EFFORT

Like runners in a race, followers of Christ must throw off every hindrance in order to give Him their best efforts - Heb. 12:1-2

7: RIGHT MINDEDNESS

The sinful mind cannot submit to God's law - Rom. 8:7

Disciples of Christ must submit to God as Jesus did - Phil. 2:5

8: RIGHT CONCENTRATION

The secret of true success, inner peace, self-control, and salvation is submission to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.  Set your heart and mind on things above, where Jesus now sits in glory, waiting to bring the present order of sin and suffering to an end - Col. 3:1-4
